No Empty Promises

Hail healthy longevity!  The grandson of James O. Ellis still does welding at this location; his wife gave me a copy of this early 20th century advertisement.

ah...so THAT'S what an andiron is...looked up Adirondack Mts..thinking it might have a link..nope..The name "Adirondacks" is an Anglicized version of the Mohawk ratirontaks, meaning "they eat trees"..thanks wikipedia..

How I love metalwork...especially when fashioned in to words...

The BBC had a wondrous series Mastercrafts..blacksmithing was one...3 beginners had either 6 or 8 weeks to learn enough to produce something of note..

    this from the BBC website:

    Don Barker - Blacksmith

Blacksmithing runs in Don’s family and after initially training as an Engineer, aged 38 he could no longer fight his natural calling and decided to follow his 200 year old family tradition and to become a blacksmith.

In October 2002 Don was elected to the Court of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths - the first working blacksmith to be elevated to the Court for 200 years. He now holds many prestigious titles including that of Freeman of the City of London, Liveryman and Bronze Award Holder of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths.
